I dont mind remembering but i do remembering learning the alphabets then words then creating sentence in kindergarten, then as i go, i learn more words and use them in my vocabulary, and i still do like 2 years i would say “gnarly, Im dead, BYE” but now i do because its new, trendy and i also learn it from other people and i fit it into my daily conversations. I remember certain books in elementary school and become really interested and I would stay still, look at the words and read, see how it forms into my thoughts and get through on what they mean. I also remember spelling tests and how it help me remember and all the tricks they taught me on how to spell better, other than that, i dont remember specifically (i had a rough time in elementary school that i dont like to remember much) but i do have a love for books but only the ones im interested in, right now im re-reading a book called “last night at the telegraph club” which is love story between two girls, one asian(lily) and one white(kaith) during the 50s and how lily faces her senior year with these butterfly thoughts about kaith while also being a minority and struggling through the communist scare. Reading this book made me excited, worried for the characters in the book. I love feeling the book has me going though when all I’m doing is simply reading them. I also read Gaby, a girl in pieces, Lions of little rock (which I remember ) but I am looking to extend my book reading further, more specifically in sapphic love stories or chicana stories. Because reading is wonderful and i believe it should be held back no matter what topic is is, we the people have a right to express ourselves with words and so with books being banned (and the wrong books arent) its oppressing and its stupid how certain people are trying to control and take away our right on what we want to read.
What do you remember about learning how to read?
